On his last album, Drake kept his fans waiting for almost a year. But for his latest album, the wait is only about six hours.

“Honestly, Nevermind,” Drake's seventh studio LP, was released to streaming services at midnight on Friday, and was officially announced just hours earlier on Drake's social media accounts. At 14 songs, this is a relatively short collection for a superstar rapper. (The album "Certified Lover Boy," which came out last September, has 21 tracks.)

Producers of the new album include longtime collaborators Noah Shebib (known as 40), Oliver El-Khatib (who is also one of Drake's managers) and Noel Cadastre, as well as Black Coffee, D.J. who came through underground and in recent years has worked with stars like David Guetta and Usher.

In a note attached to the album on Apple Music, Drake said that "Honestly, Nevermind." dedicated to Virgil Abloh, the most influential fashion designer with a long-standing relationship with Kanye West, and who died last year at the age of 41 of cardiac angiosarcoma, a rare type of cancer.

Fans have been expecting something new from Drake since at least March, when he posted a photo of himself in the recording studio. In contrast, “Certified Lover Boy” has been in talks for almost a year. Drake's announcement for "Honestly, Nevermind" comes just hours after Beyoncé made her own statement, unusually giving six weeks to her next release, "Renaissance," which will be her first solo since "Lemonade" in 2016.

"Honestly, Nevermind." came as the rapper took more control over his career. Last month, Universal Music Group announced that it had signed a broad deal with Drake that covers recording, music publishing, and other businesses such as merchandise and visual projects. The terms have not been disclosed, but the value is estimated to be in the hundreds of millions of dollars.

Drake dominates the streaming market. Although Spotify lists him as the eighth most popular artist in the world — Puerto Rican star Bad Bunny tops it — its catalog, with hits like “One Dance,” “God's Plan” and “Hotline Bling,” represents some of the most popular music on the format. According to an analysis by Billboard, last year Drake's catalog outperformed all music released before 1980.

Over the years, Drake released music through a complex contract structure that gave ownership of his work to other labels affiliated with Universal. Since "Certified Lover Boy", his albums have been accompanied by a copyright notice stating that the record is owned by his company, October's Very Own, and licensed to Universal, which releases it through the Republic label. That arrangement usually gives the artist much more control — and a much bigger share of the revenue — and is also used by big-name artists like Adele, Taylor Swift, and Beyoncé.

Persyaratan belum diungkapkan, tetapi nilainya diperkirakan mencapai ratusan juta dolar.

Drake mendominasi pasar streaming.
